Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship
If you are a permanent resident of Canada or a resident of Canada who is at least 18 years old, you may sponsor certain relatives to immigrate to Canada permanently. You can live, study, and work in Canada if you end up staying there permanently. You are responsible for providing your relative with financial support when they arrive if you help them immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident.
Requirements to become a sponsor:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- You and your sponsored family must agree to a sponsorship agreement that commits you to provide financial assistance to the family if needed. This understanding also states that the eternal resident will stoop to the best of his ability to help himself.
- Partners, customs and long-term financial support must be provided from the moment the partner becomes a permanent resident.
- You must provide financial assistance to your dependent child for a long period of time or until the child turns 25, whichever comes first.
